Quora: How Long Should You Wait Before Looking at the Answer?

By Duncan Smith Leave a Comment May 18 0

Red-Green-Code Quora 2022

Someone asked the following question on Quora: “How long do I have to wait, before I see the answer to a problem in programming?” What do you think it means?

Quora allows anyone to edit a question, and sometimes I edit questions to make them clearer. But in this case a few people had already answered the original question. The trend on Quora is for people to answer questions even if they don’t make sense. Maybe they have learned that the question author rarely comes back to clarify their intention.

I think the other answers misinterpreted the question. Here’s my answer:

How long do I have to wait, before I see the answer to a problem in programming? (answer)

Variations of this question come up a lot, but I think it’s a key part of creating a study strategy.

As a software engineer who is using LeetCode to prepare for coding interviews, how long do you try to solve a problem by yourself before giving up and looking at the solution? (answer)
